Winter holiday in Amsterdam – My Captured Moment

If you have some memorable photos alongside the wonderful moments with it, then you can join in too with Heledd over at Running in Lavender.

My Captured Moment for this week is a photo of me and Reimer in the beautiful city of Amsterdam, way back in 2011.

in the City of Amsterdam

It was around December when we went on this holiday in Amsterdam, which was spot on at the start of winter time.  Along with us were our family friends too.

I remembered we booked a hotel slightly far from the City so we travelled on a 10 minutes tram ride almost everyday to bring us to the City, which was quite an adventure for us.

What we did in Amsterdam?

We had a good trek around their City Center, discovering their lifestyle and savoring their local food too.  I must admit, too much exploration in the City was amazing but slightly naughty to some extent, as we ended up in the Red Light District by mistake which was unacceptable especially as we were tagging along baby Reimer with us and yet the place was so interesting.   I think all of you know what wicked that place is… I have to say, there were so much to see that it leaves nothing to the imagination.  Warning! avoid that part of the City if you ever go to Amsterdam with kids, an absolute no-no!

We also went for a Canal Cruise, which gave us a better look of the entire City.   Viewing the whole city through a boat tour seemed a bit magical and a wonderful experience despite from Reimer mocking around during the tour.

When I was still in my school years, the Diary of Anne Frank had always been part of our English Literature, and that made me so curious about her story.  Well, I had seen it all when we went inside Anne Franke’s house, where her family was in hiding for 2 years during the war period.  It was a strange feeling and had goosebumps when I finally saw in reality what I only used to read in the book.

Because it was around December time when we went there, which meant Christmas was approaching, it made the City much busier and more vibrant.  The spirit of the Christmas was all over the place too.

Have you visited Amsterdam?  Can you share your experiences too…

  • I visited Amsterdam in Spring 2007 with my best friend and flatmate. It was lovely and sunny most of the time. We did the river cruise as well, it was a lovely trip. I thought Anne Franks house was quite thought provoking and I had goosebumps too. It’s quite something to see hat reality of what we’d all read at school. Your post has brought lots of memories back of my trip x

I’ve only been to Amsterdam once, but it was summer. We’ve thought about going as a family but one of the best ways for us to get there is on the ferry, and the crossing during winter really puts me off! x

I think going through a ferry would be more fun and adventurous. That sounds good to me!

  • I haven’t been to Amsterdam for years and years…..crazy isn’t it! I would love to go again, I can barely remember anything about it. Looks and sounds like you had an awesome time away. Thanks for sharing with the #bestandworst and hope to see you again! 🙂

I meant to link up this post to #throwbackthursday however, I mistakenly added the link for #bestandworst… just as well the post topic fits to it too. Just me not paying too much attention!

  • What a lovely photograph. I went to Amsterdam when I was a university student back in 1998. It is a very pretty city and the canal tour was fabulous. But oh my, the red light district was a real eye opener. Definitely not kid friendly. The Anne Frank museum sounds amazing and I am sad that I missed seeing that when I went there.
