Philippines was a colony of America in 1890’s which explains why there are a lot of American influence in my home country. From food, clothing, architecture, culture and even the English vocabulary taught in school. I think that’s how my desire of wanting to visit America developed and grew.
As what I’ve mentioned in my previous post, my husband is a travel addict and going for a holiday for his 40th birthday was all he ever wanted. When we were thinking of where to go, America crossed our minds a couple of times. Firstly, because of my aspiration to visit the country. Secondly, my husband and I loves watching TV series and one of our favorite ones is Dexter. It is a crime drama mystery series where most of its shooting locations is in Miami, Florida. Isn’t it too obvious that we’re a bit obsessed with Dexter?! Not that we like his character being a serial killer but we just enjoyed watching it. Well, after a lot of discussion, we’ve finally chosen to go on a holiday to Florida particularly in Miami.
Having a family holiday in Miami even in the month of January is fabulous. Weather was much better than at home, sunny in the morning although a bit chilly at night time, but hey! it’s still around 20 degrees celsius, which is far warmer than Scotland. While we were there, we took advantage of being able to visit the places we’ve wanted to see right before our eyes. We were able to taste the food and drinks that seems popular in the place. Well, I would say we have explored the place the way we wanted it to be, isn’t it the purpose of holiday?
Meanwhile, Reimer and Ruby tried a frozen banana which I’ve not seen yet available in UK to help cool them off. These chocolate covered full-sized treats topped with a generous coating of rainbow sprinkles made them go bananas with it. They have variety coatings too but this one is their favorite.
Ocean Drive is one of the most popular filming locations of the television series and just seeing it in person is amazing. I know we’re kind of over the top with it, but it feels like being in the scene itself when you find the area so familiar.
We spoiled ourselves with the views while taking the delight of the character and ambiance of this touristy place but not much of the wild and crazy nightlife though which seemed so interesting. That’s the only downside of having a holiday with kids, you have to be indoor early at night, after dinner time ideally.
Of course, we also spent a lot of time in South Beach. Reimer and Ruby loved playing the sand, collecting shells and just happily sitting in the shoreline while finding pleasure as the waves brushed through them. Simple pleasures I guess!
My aspiration to explore America didn’t stop here. I still fancy visiting other states of America, who knows what the future lies. However, at the moment, that’s America, one of my bucket list checked.
Have you visited the places in your bucket list yet?
