Highlights of August

August was one busy month for us.  I must say, the month of August was filled with wonderful experiences, great adventures, beautiful memories, family bonding and a few milestones met and achieved as well.

Without further ado, here’s our highlights for this month:

  • Scottish Highlands Adventure

The first two weeks of the month had been truly well spent as we explored the beauty of Scottish Highlands.  If you have been reading my recent posts, you probably felt spammed by the aforementioned and I won’t blame you for feeling that way.  However, if you missed reading about our Scottish Highlands Adventure, you can browse it here too:

Day 1 : Dunnottar Castle

Day 2 : Dunrobin Castle

Day 3 : John O’ Groats

Day 4 : Inverness

Day 5 : Cairngorms Mountain

  • Reimer loose his first tooth

When Reimer told us that one of his tooth was wobbly, I thought he was at the right age for it.  But when I’ve checked his teeth, I found two adult teeth started sprouting through already which I find really surprising.  So I suggested to him to keep wiggling it so it would come off pretty quick in order to have a space for the two new adult teeth that started growing behind it.

After a day or two of persistent wriggling of the loose tooth, it came to a point where he needed a little help to have it eventually removed.   It was a nightmare as he started getting upset and petrified about it.  He was anxious that pulling it out might be sore and might bleed.  I felt sorry for him though because this thing was new to him and that was just the beginning.

Here comes mummy’s little help.  To be honest, it was not a pleasant experience for me either but it has to be done.  Finally, when it came off, he was so pleased and relieved.   At least, he doesn’t seem traumatized by it.  But hopefully, he would be a lot braver next time around.  On the other hand, he was also excited as he was expecting a reward from the Tooth Fairy.

Well, he did have a visit from the Tooth Fairy that night while he was fast asleep.  He was one happy Larry the morning when he woke up and noticed a little surprise from the Tooth Fairy.

  • My Opal Plum Tree

We have planted this Opal Plum Tree two years ago, after we moved and were fully settled here in our home.  Having said that, it has also been two years that it didn’t bear any fruit at all.

Strangely this year, we were overly surprised of the amount of fruits it finally bear.  In fact, it was over cropping.  The fruit itself was very juicy and sweet which I love the most.  Reimer who was initially not keen on plums tried it and fell in love with it as well and can’t have enough of it.

Finger crossed next year may it remain as fruitful and abundant.

  • Ruby learned to ride a bike

As I have mentioned in my July’s Highlights that Ruby had progressed really well from balance bike to a proper bike with pedals.  Basically, we only placed the stabilizers on her new bike for a week for the purpose of her to get the hang of using the pedals.  After a week, we persevered that she will learn the bike without the stabilizers on.   Guess what?! she absolutely smashed it.

One lovely day in August

At the moment, she is continuously learning to balance and pedal at the same time but she’s definitely getting there and her confidence is immensely growing.

She may have fallen, bruised, hurt and cried but her unwavering determination outweighs them all.  I think at the age of 3, it’s a great achievement and a huge milestone for her.

  • Reimer and Ruby started School

Another very important event for the month of August is the start of school year.   First Day of School began two weeks ago.  Reimer started Primary 2, while Ruby started pre-school.

I can proudly say, I’ve got two enthusiastic schoolkids that day.  Second week on and they’re settling in very well.

How was your month of August?  Have you been away somewhere to spend the school holidays?

  • Wow some serious milestones achieved! WELL DONE!!!

  • Hi Cheryl, my son had the same problem with his teeth and in the end the dentist gave him some padded things to bit on and pull to help loosen his teeth. I hope Reimer finds it easier second time round. Wobbly teeth still make my toes curl…

Glad to see your to have both settled back into their school routine without a hitch. My daughter goes back an the 12th and of course she can’t wait… Oh, that’s wishful thinking on my part!

    xx

The other tooth starts getting wobbly now… hope it won’t take time til it’s ready to go. I know it’s scary but I have to brave myself to encourage Reimer to be brave too. Good luck when your daughter goes to school, hope she settles in well too. Thank you for commenting.

  • Oh well done, what a big girl learning to ride a bike! I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland, and I’ve been invited to a wedding there next year so hopefully I’ll get to check some of it out! Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunda

    • ReimerandRuby

Thank you.. so proud of her for learning to ride a bike that age. You should visit Scotland, there’s some lovely places to visit here too. Thank you for commenting.

  • Wow, so many milestones! This brought back so many memories of my baby teeth falling out, and what a clever girl learning to ride a bike so young! My in-laws had a bumper crop of plums this year too – we spent so long picking them while we were there and the trees were still full – clearly a good year for them! #KCACOLS

    • ReimerandRuby

Thank you! It’s nice to hear that too… we have enjoyed eating our plums for many days/weeks as well, have given some to my friends as well as there’s loads of them. Thank you for commenting

  • It sounds like you had a really memorable summer! I’ve never seen adult teeth come through like that before! #mg

    • ReimerandRuby

Yes, we did have a memorable summer holidays. Yes, I know and my first time to see it as well… I find it weird too. Thank you for commenting.

  • God to admit the picture of the wobbly teeth made my tum flip flop, the kids I look after are always chasing me around with mouths wide open and tongues wiggling their little teeth and it makes me so squeamish – but poor love. And the bike riding is super-impressive, she needs to come round and show my son how it is does as he is lacking a bit of confidence with his learning – well done Ruby!

My husband is the same, he find loose teeth weird and horrible, lol. She was really determined to learn, she have learned balance bike first before we bought her this bike with pedals and I think that helps a lot. Thank you for commenting.

  • I adore Scotland, perfect place for a family holiday. The castles are incredible. We had a very busy August too. I think us parents like to cram as much as we can in whilst our little ones are off school. #Anythinggoes

    • ReimerandRuby

Totally agree with you… make use of the time when they’re off school and we’re off work as well. Thank you for commenting.

  • Eek that tooth coming out must have been a bit scary for Reimer but thank goodness all was ok. Ruby is doing amazing on her bike at 3!! We have just bought our daughter one with stablisers so need to get her riding. I bet time in the Scottish highlands was beautiful. Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst xx

    • ReimerandRuby

He was ok but there’s more to come off soon. Ruby is doing great with her bike, she love it, hope the weather remains dry though. Yes, we did have a beautiful time at Scottish highlands. Thanks for commenting.

  • Yay for the bike riding! So adorable, and look at them in their uniforms so cute and so grown up. I love that your fruit tree is finally giving you such a treat! #mg

  • Wow, August was a busy month for you guys. Poor Reimer, that must have been pretty scary with it also being his first tooth but sounds like he handled it like a superstar. I love that plum tree, they look so yummy. And riding a bike a three is awesome! It took a lot longer for my son but he never had a balance bike, after speaking with others we are definitely going that route with our daughter. #BloggerClubUK #bestandworst #AnythingGoes #TwinklyTuesdays

    • ReimerandRuby

I would suggest a balance bike as well as a first bike for your little one, the transition is so quick. One best thing I bought for my kids to be honest. Yeah, the plums, they’re all eaten now but we did enjoyed it a lot… Thanks for commenting!

  • So much going on! Congrats to Ruby for learning to ride her bike. I’m sure Reimer will find it easier to lose teeth now he’s sure the tooth fairy will leave him some money lol
Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes 🙂

    • ReimerandRuby

I think he’s looking forward to another loose tooth knowing the Tooth fairy will give some coins, until she will get bankrupt, lol Thanks for commenting.

  • Oh my goodness the exact same thing happened with E’s teeth too! We had to take him to the dentist to have his baby teeth pulled out in the end to make way for his adult ones to come forward. At least Reimer’s came out eventually – I have heard it is really common.

Well done Ruby for mastering riding a bike that is amazing! I hope they are both enjoying going back to school! #KCACOLS

    • ReimerandRuby

I think that would be scary being pulled out,at least E was too brave for that. Yes, they both are loving school so far which is great. Thanks for commenting.

  • Milestones are so much more fun than kidney stones! What a lovely august for you all! Thanks for sharing! #mg

  • My 6 year old is so upset that he hasn’t lost a tooth yet and some of his classmates have. Think it’s because he knows the tooth fairy will bring him a surprise. Great post…looks like life is good. I am visiting from #AnythingGoes

    • ReimerandRuby

I think it’s the thought of the Tooth Fairy visiting them is what made them excited of losing tooth, lol. Thanks for commenting.
