Mashed Potatoes and more…..


We always love potatoes with our meal, aren’t we? whether it’s roasted, boiled, fried, mashed and baked.

If you’re fed up with just the normal mashed potato or cheesy mash, this could be an alternative option for you.  I’m actually unsure how to call this dish that’s why I come up with this recipe’s name.

Mashed Potatoes and more…. as it has loads of other ingredients added to the basic mashed potatoes which gives more texture and flavor to its taste.  It’s pretty easy to make too.  I only make this dish at home when we invite visitors down for dinner and it’s always a hit.  Absolutely one of my family’s favorites!



1.5 kilos Potatoes

1/2 ball of Cabbage (cubed)

1 piece Onion (minced)

8 pieces Bacon (sliced)

Cheese (enough to cover)

75 grams Butter

200 ml Cream

Salt and Pepper


Boil potatoes as normal.  Once soft and cooked, drain the water.


Season with Salt and Pepper.  Add in butter and cream.  Mash with a masher.  If it’s a bit thick, add in a splash of milk to loosen up.  Then set aside.


Heat pan preferably with lid.  And add in sliced bacon and cook until slightly brown.


Add in minced Onions and cook until translucent.


Add in the cubed cabbage and cover until cooked.


On the other hand, preheat oven to 180 degrees.

Add the cooked cabbage, onion and bacon to the mashed potatoes.  Fold it in and mix well.


Transfer in an oven-proof dish.  Add in grated cheese enough to cover the top.


Place in the preheated oven and cook until cheese had melted and looks golden brown.

SAMSUNG CSCIt’s now ready to dish out.


Other type of Bacon can be used too, depends on what type you fancy.

I have used Sweetheart Cabbage for this one, but you can use different type too.

This recipe is good for 6 persons.

  • This looks fantastic, I would omit the bacon as I don’t eat it, but a great way to make mashed potatoes more interesting. I often get bored with them in their own, so will need to add to it as you have here.
