This is a very special and exciting day for my little man, because it’s his first day in Big School. 😀
Meanwhile, yesterday around 11 in the morning, we went round to his Primary School to collect the school clothes we’ve ordered. He doesn’t want to wait in the car while I go in, he also wanted to go with me to pick it up. And as soon as the Lady the Receptionist handed us the school stuff, he was all jumping with joy and even cuddled into it… I felt the sheer enthusiasm in him!
When we arrived home, I labelled those clothes straight away so it will all be ready for tomorrow. While I was busy doing so, he was also busy trying on the school clothes, which thankfully it all fits perfectly.
The first day of Big School doesn’t start at 9:30 and they’re only in until 12:30. Thursday will be a normal 9:00 am start but still a half day finish so as Friday too. It will be next week that he will already be full day in Big School.
The most awaited day has come, he woke up early this morning and was so excited knowing about it. I gave him shower so he would smell fresh and he got himself dressed afterwards. And this was him, all raring to go…
Fortunately, me and his dad are both off work on his first day so we both have a chance to witness the start of his big milestone. It is a beautiful warm sunny day today so we decided to just walk with him instead of bringing the car. He called it as a “family walk time”. If only we as a family can do this every time he goes to school, which is far too impossible as we both need to go to work. I know he understands it at some sort, but I’m hoping he will not take it negatively. As parents, of course we want to be there for our kids all the time, aren’t we all?
When we arrived at the Primary School, there’s also a lot of kids there with their parents too who were also as enthusiastic as us. When the bell rang, they were called in to form a queue before going in to their respective classrooms. I can’t believe he just gave us big long cuddles especially to his little sister telling her he’ll miss her and they just cuddled each other. Awww! I’m so touched, he’s so sweet! Hope they remain as closely attached as they are even when they’re bigger.
Being the first day of school, parents were allowed to get in their classrooms but weren’t allowed to stay long. As soon as the kids were a bit settled, snacks away in their corresponding shelves and bags away in their bag area, we were then asked to bid good bye to them. As keen and confident as he is, he just started nosing around with classroom stuff.
I went up to collect him at 12:30. He was overly happy when he saw me standing outside waiting for him together with the rest of the parents. I’ve asked him how the first day went, he said a lot of things and he said that it was a very good day. Well, the lovely grin in his face said it all.
They were also given some packed lunch to take away with them, which was a very kind gesture for the school to provide as such. Hence, as soon as we arrived home, he dig into his take away lunch and started munching.
Overall, it was a successful first day for him as I had expected it to be. No fuss, no cries, no struggles whatsoever. Actually, I’m so proud of my little man. I’m a proud mummy of Reimer.
How did you feel on your kids first day in school?
