Reimer’s first swimming Lesson!

Reimer was so excited last Thursday because it was his first swimming lesson.   Well technically it was not, he had been on swimming lessons early this year but after the 10 blocks, he wasn’t able to carry on to the next block because we went on a Holiday to Philippines.

When the nearby Secondary School swimming pool had finally re-opened after being refurbished, we booked him straight away to get him start off with swimming lessons again.  Unfortunately, they’ll only accept 5 yrs. old and above so Ruby can’t join in just yet.

Last Thursday was the first block of his swimming lessons… he was happy as Larry.  He just loved it, no word can explain with his enthusiasm that day!

His grin from ear to ear says it all!
His grin from ear to ear says it all!

When they were about to finish off their session, we had a little peek of him and I can tell how keen he was whilst in the water as he was trying to make himself swim using the floater.  Then their swimming instructor asked them to be in a queue out of the pool and jump towards the water one after the other, he did it with a big splash without showing any fear.  I’m so proud of him and his eagerness to learn.

Reimer + Swimming = a happy and excited Little Man

I have to say, I am an advocate of swimming for kids as it is a lifesaving skill that could possibly benefit them in the future.  That’s why it’s me who kept encouraging Reimer to do so, although he doesn’t need a lot of persuasion at all because he loved swimming anyway.

I hate to admit this especially as it can be read by anybody, but I will for the purpose of this post… that I don’t know how to swim.  Yes, you heard it right! You probably wonder why when I came from a country full of beautiful beaches.  I know, it’s terribly embarrassing, isn’t it?  This is what actually prompted me to let my kids learn swimming at a young age because I don’t want them to be like me.  Don’t get me wrong, my Papa tried his best to teach me how to swim before every time we go to the beach.  Even the thought of being in deep water scares the daylight out of me.  I could have had a chance but I’m uninterested to learn.  I’m such a scaredy-cat!

Have you enrolled your little ones to swimming lessons too?

Are they excited about it or a little scared like I do?

My son is doing swimming lessons and is enjoying it so far. He loves jumping in but doesn’t like it if he swallows any water

    • ReimerandRuby

I think it’s more fun if they enjoyed the lesson, made them learn quicker I think. Well done to your little boy too!

  • I don’t know how to swim either. It was one in f the reasons I was so keen for the Tubblet to learn. I really wish I could! Hope it all goes well and he picks it up,quickly

I’m glad to know I’m not alone who doesn’t know how to swim.. same here I was keen for my kids to learn it too.

  • I believe the swimming is a life skill and so that’s something I want all my children to learn but unfortunately, all of them hated lessons! Luckily swimming is compulsory here so they can’t argue with that. #anythinggoes

That’s good that it’s actually compulsory. Here it’s free at some age groups but you have to pay for Reimer’s age. I don’t mind paying as long as they’ll happy to learn.

  • I’m so glad Reimer loves swimming, as you say it’s such a brilliant and essential life skill. Thank you for linking up to #TheBabyFormula xx

It’s like a a battle half won, him being so determined to learn to swim. Thank you!

  • I’m glad your fear of swimming hasn’t stopped you encouraging the kids 🙂 It’s never too late to learn?!… 😉

    Well done both!

  • I totally agree that learning how to swim can be lifesaving later in life. You just never know when you will need it. E&E’s Dad also doesn’t know how to swim – so you are not alone! It is so great that Reimer is a keen swimmer – so perhaps one day he can teach you instead? 🙂 It is never too late to learn. Thank you so much for linking with me again. Always lovely to have you here. x #FabFridayPost

Yep, was thinking about that, ask Reimer to teach me.. isn’t it embarrassing?! hehehe! Thanks for your lovely comment!

  • It’s obvious from the big grin how much he enjoys it 🙂 I can’t swim either and it is kind of weird but I’m far too old to be taking swimming lessons now!

I’m the same boat with you… I find myself too old to take swimming lessons now. But as what they said, it’s never too late to learn.

  • Ahh lovely. My hubby can’t swim so I got our kids in lesson right away to learn from a young age as my parents house is on the river and they have a pool and it was a safety thing more than anything a life lesson to have I think. Thanks for your lovely comment! Hope you and your family will have a lovely time at Christmas! See you again next year!

  • Aw I love how excited and happy he looks in your photos! I taught my boys both to swim, it wasn’t easy but I didn’t learn until I was older than most of my friends and I hated feeling different than them, so I wanted my boys to learn early on. I hope his lessons go really well,

I’m crossing my fingers crossed with that too… I just envied my friends who know how to swim, I hate not being able to learn myself.
