Ruby’s first haircut

Ruby’s first haircut…. so exciting! I don’t know if it’s just me that gets overly thrilled about having our kids’ first haircut.  Does everyone get the same feeling too?  Perhaps it’s a female thing, going to the hairdresser and having a new look is somehow rather appealing.  I suppose being a mother, our little ones’ first time experience won’t fail to overwhelm us, don’t we?

Ruby haven’t tried having haircut ever since she was a baby.  When she was born, she had relatively thick hair but gradually fallen off as she grows until she was partly bald at age 1.  That’s why I just didn’t bother have her hair trimmed then.  As her hair gets longer, the cute baby curls in her hair made me fell in love with and it’s a shame to get rid off it as it suits her perfectly whether her hair is down or tied back.

A photo of her before we head off to the hairdresser for her first haircut.

Few days before she turned 3, I told myself that Ruby’s hair finally needed some pampering, although her hair is long but it’s very thin.  And even though I love its little curls, but I know it has to go.  Hopefully, having it trimmed would make it appear voluminous despite of its naturally fine texture.

I braved myself and booked her for a haircut at our nearby hairdresser.  Beforehand, I kept telling her about it so she would feel the excitement too and be less scared or worried.   Actually, I have booked it the day before her 3rd birthday… I would like to think it would be more memorable for her as well!

It was a nice sunny day, her dad was away to work, so I dragged Reimer with us too to the hairdresser.  It was only a 10 minutes walk from home and when we arrived, she’s very quiet and was observing the place.  I have chosen a morning appointment because I thought it’s less busier.  Ruby stood beside me and patiently waited for her turn.  I could pay a penny for her thoughts that time to satisfy my curiosity.

Her fine, long and curly hair before being trimmed.

So when it was her turn, the hairdresser took a wee chair for her to sit in and made her comfortable.  I’ve told the hairdresser it’s her first time, so she cut a little hair from her for me to keep which was so nice of her.   Ruby sat in the salon chair so quietly and listens to the hairdresser’s instruction, no fuss whatsoever even with cold water sprayed on her hair didn’t bother her at all.  Her hair was cut at shoulder length which I think is ideal.  I was really surprised as I thought she would be difficult to deal with but I’m totally wrong.  I’m so pleased with her.

After the haircut, I asked her if she liked her new hair and she nodded…. Silence means yes I guess!  The hairdresser was very impressed how she behaved considering it’s her first time.  I’m so proud of her, she’s full of confidence and courage.

Ruby's new hair!
Ruby’s new hair!

I think it’s safe to say that Ruby loves visiting hairdressers and trying new hairstyle too.  She definitely is a lovely lady in the making.  I must admit, I can’t get my eyes off her with her new look, she’s an adorable little flower!

  • aww she is so gorgeous!!! It looks so cute on her! I can see why you are so proud of her. When I took Aspen for her first hair cut she had so many curls and after it was cut it went straight! I was so disappointed! But she still looked adorable with her little straight haircut. This post brings back memories for me. Thank you for sharing with me at #mg too! Much love and have lovely week xx

I thought I won’t see her curls again but with her short hair, remains her lovely curls too which I’m so glad at. I don’t know if she’ll like it when she grows old though. Thanks for dropping by and for your lovely comment too!

  • Awww, Ruby looks lovely! My girls really enjoy having their hair cut too. I think they enjoy feeling pampered! My brother cuts my son’s hair at home for me, and he always enjoys having his hair cut and styled too! Sarah #FabFridayPost

    • ReimerandRuby

I think it’s a girl thing, being pampered just feels so good, lol. My husband is the one who cuts my son’s hair as well, he hated it at first but eventually got the hang of it. Thank you for dropping by!

  • Aww it’s nerve wracking isn’t it! My eldest daughter had her first haircut last month at aged four! I was so emotional about it, there is something so precious about your daughters hair, especially as a woman and knowing how nerve wracking the hairdressers can be for us as adults still! She is gorgeous!! #fabfridaypost

Wow! her hair must be so long after 4 years… If ruby’s hair was only thicker, I could have waited a bit longer but I didn’t regret it, loved her new haircut and I’m glad the curls remains. Thanks for dropping by!

  • Aww well done Ruby on your first hair cut!! She has such long hair, it’s beautiful. Our daughter hated her first few hair cuts but did so well on her last trip – she’s 3 now. Thank you for linking up with us at #bloggerclubuk

Ruby loved her first haircut and hopefully it will remain like that. Thank you for dropping by!

  • Ahhh so gorgeous. I have been wondering if I should get MM her first haircut yet or not. Still waiting for the front of it to grow so it all balances out. She looks adorable. Thanks for linking up to Share With Me. #sharewithme

    • ReimerandRuby

I was the same with Ruby, I kept waiting for it grow a bit so it balances it out when trimmed. Good luck to MM’s first haircut when it comes! Thanks for dropping by and for you lovely comment!

  • Aww well done Ruby! What a big girl. Our little girl had a baby trim when she turned 1, she’s now 2 and has strawberry blonde ringlets and I’m dreading getting her hair trimmed! #KCACOLS

    • ReimerandRuby

I think your little will love it once she get a haircut, I thought Ruby would have a meltdown at the hairdressers but I was totally wrong, she liked it. Thanks for dropping by!

  • What a gorgeous little hair cut! Our little lady had her first hair cut about a month or so ago and I felt exactly the same. A little torn about whether we should or not, but it definitely made her hair look tidier and more presentable. Just like your little Ruby she was quite quiet and observant of what was going on and then couldnt wait to tell everyone afterwards for days that she had her hair cut :-). I hope she had a lovely birthday too, great idea booking it close to her special day, definitely memorable! Emily #KCACOLS

    • ReimerandRuby

I’m glad I did have her hair trimmed because it looks tidier so you said and thicker as well. It was a nice first time experience of her as well closer to her birthday, more memorable. Thanks for dropping by!

  • Aww a first haircut, a major milestone. I’m not sure when either me or my son will be ready for that first haircut heh. no need to hurry, rather avoid those meltdowns.

    • ReimerandRuby

Ruby loved her first haircut but my son always hated it every time. He got haircut at home by his dad and it was only recently that he got the hang of it, he used to cry a lot when it’s haircut time because he was scared with his own hair that fell on his feet, so ridiculously crazy, lol. Fingers crossed your son will not have the same issue as mine. Thank you!

  • Aw such a gorgeous haircut! I’m holding out til we have to get Emma’s cut, though she has out of control baby curls so it might be sooner than later! I’m not sure why I’m so nervous about them cutting her curls…fantastic post and some really lovely photos here #KCACOLS

    • ReimerandRuby

Trust me I was the same, I was feeling nervous for her first haircut too, I don’t know why but everything turned out really fab afterwards. So Good luck on Emma’s first haircut too!

  • Oh, how beautiful! I think her hair was cut at the perfect length, as she still has some of those gorgeous curls <3 My son is only 13 months old, and I'm not quite sure when I'll take him to get his first haircut haha-neither of us are ready! Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos (: #KCACOLS

    • ReimerandRuby

You’re right the length is perfect as I still love the curls to remain. Good luck when your little one’s turn to have his haircut too!

  • Oh that’s a lovely haircut! And you must’ve been so proud of her being calm about having it done! My daughter is 2 and her hair is finally starting to grow and reach her shoulders, but I think it’ll be awhile before we get it cut, it does feel like a big deal! x #KCACOLS

    • ReimerandRuby

I think having her haircut now at 3 is a bit easier because she understands a bit better. I bet if she had her haircut when she was a little younger, it would have been a different story. Good luck when it’s your daughter’s turn to have her first haircut!

  • Aww she looks so adorable! Bella never had a lot of hair. It took ages to grow. The year she started reception we decided to do a trim but we actually did at home. I did a little bit at the back and then my mum did a fringe. She looked so different. We didn’t like it!! It took like another 6 months for her hair to grow back again. I haven’t cut it anymore as I think I should wait to get it even longer and take her to the hairdresser when they will do a proper job. Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. So sorry for my late comment but I had a hectic week. Hope to see you again this week, 🙂 x

    • ReimerandRuby

That was my thoughts as well with Ruby’s hair, if I had done it myself, it might have been different and I might have regret it. I’m glad I booked a hairdresser for her, did the job better than I would do. Thanks for dropping by and for your lovely comment!
